Game Design Update (Mid-December 2020)

As mentioned in the previous update, I've had a lot more personal time to focus on completing my game. I've made a lot of progress since that Thanksgiving update, and I have another two weeks with my Christmas-New Years break. I quite enjoy the holiday season for these long breaks, which are especially cozy at home with the colder weather. However, the following weeks of the new year are dreadful since all that remains is the dark and cold, with no more holidays in sight.

The Code

I vividly remember back in December 2019 when I didn't know anything practical about Python. I followed beginner-level Pygame tutorials to get hands-on experience with the data types, functions, and algorithms. At some point, I became proficient enough to know how to setup any function I needed. By having this passion project envisioned, learning coding has been very gratifying; not like grueling coursework.

There have been various graphical improvements, but obviously a majority of the work has gone into the game engine under the hood. All the AI behavior, UI layout, level architecture, etc. is constantly being adjusted. My goal is to have a playable demo out by the end of the year, which is certainly achievable with my 2 week break (and no other obligations).

I realized one night in bed that my hard drive is the only place I've stored my code. Should anything ever happen to it, I'd lose hundreds of hours of work! To assuage this worry, I uploaded some backups to my GitHub.
